WHO WE ARE

As the local arts council, operator of Vermillion’s local cinema, and steward of a rotating art gallery, VCA is uniquely positioned support and promote arts investment. Uplifting artistry and culture upholds quality of life in Vermillion and fosters community engagement.

Arts investment. Vermillion’s 2026 and 2025 wins for USA Today Best Small Town Arts Scene prove art is at the core of our town identity. As the arts council, the Vermillion Cultural Association has a duty to uplift that identity and the folks who make it possible—namely, artists. Artist support is the invisible work that creates a successful, visible “arts scene.” VCA dedicates funds to artists for projects that bring people together around art and/or create public art. We also oversee the downtown SculptureWalk.

Community engagement. In 2026, the Coyote Twin set the goal of offering free movies on as many Mondays as possible to ensure moviegoing is an accessible arts and cultural experience for everyone, regardless of income. We invite sponsors to showcase movies that further their mission or projects, or just for fun. A flat fee of $400 covers the cost of film licenses and operations overhead fee. We created the artsHUB as a digital resource meant to connect artists and the wider Vermillion community. The artsHUB offers an arts event calendar, arts & culture directory, and a discussion space for connection.

Event visibility. Investment and engagement are dependent on the visibility of the arts and opportunities to participate in them. In July 2026, VCA will launch the More than Movies Marquee Campaign, a two-year fundraising effort to replace the red-letter boards on the Coyote Twin marquee with digital screens, as well as make internal improvements to help us diversify the events and programs we can support. Not only would the Coyote Twin Theater benefit from converting our outdated marquee to dual digital display, as the arts council, VCA has more to communicate to and do in the community. The vintage aesthetic of our marquee can’t keep up with modern showtimes and hours, let alone advertising for our Community Movie Mondays, special events, arts programs, and gallery exhibits.
