COYOTE GALLERY

The Coyote Gallery has featured (top left-bottom right) photography by Tim Schreiner, Dick Termes’ Termespheres, sculpture by Tasha Determan, works by Jacq Johns, and Native American artwork accompanying the documentary We Are a Horse Nation.

The Coyote Gallery at 12 E. Main Street is adjacent to the Coyote Twin Theater. It is downtown Vermillion’s premier rotating art space, featuring the works of local and regional artists, invited exhibitions, and USD and Vermillion Public School students. Every year, the gallery hosts a Holiday Pop-Up Shop in November and December, where we sell goods and gifts created by local artists and makers.

Gallery admittance is free and open to the public, in accordance with our mission to make art an accessible part of everyday public life. The space overseen by VCA program director, maintained by Coyote Twin staff, and often retains the help of volunteers.

OUR GALLERY

Gallery Hours

Thurs & Fri 3pm–9pm | Sat & Sun 12pm–9pm

Prior to VCA ownership, the space now occupied by the gallery was a video rental store, operated by the previous movie theater owners. The buildings were not always connected, however. Before the 1990s redevelopment into the video store and second screen for the theater, the property was occupied by Monogram News, a fondly remembered news magazine shop with a selection of candy popular with Vermillion’s younger residents.

History

Our exhibition calendar is planned well in advance, though opportunities due to cancellations do occasionally arise. We primarily showcase art from Vermillion-area and South Dakota artists but welcome exhibitions from visiting artists in conjunction with university, community, or national events.

The gallery features 90 linear square feet of wall space (click here for diagram) and is suitable for display of visual art, small-scale receptions, performances, and workshops. You can learn more by previewing our exhibition agreement.

You are invited to send representative photos of your work and a full artist CV to events@vermculture.org after submitting this proposal.
