BETTER TOGETHER

True to its vision, the VCA has established itself as a successful partner organization on a number of projects in Vermillion and around the state. Check out the cool stuff we’ve helped bring to life below!

THE BARN QUILT PROJECT

The VCA and Creative Care, LLC created the Barn Quilt Project: South Dakota Strong. Artists traveled to nine communities around South Dakota to make paper “barn quilts” and invite participants to reflect on lessons from their pandemic experiences. This project was funded by a $75,000 grant from the national CDC Foundation. Learn more about BQP.

IMAGINING COMMUNITY

Imagining Community was a series of artful gestures throughout late 2020 and 2021, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when opportunities for sharing space and experiencing art together were rare. It was funded by a Change Network project grant supported by National Arts Strategies and the Bush Foundation. Learn more about Imagining Community.

EXQUISITE CLOUD

Exquisite Cloud is a collectively assembled art experience that explores ideas of observation and improvisation through interaction with sculptural props, music, movement, and imagination. The props are meant to evoke the joy and beauty of our connection to the natural world. It began with a Change Network project grant supported by the Bush Foundation. The project continues as part the Rural Cloud Museum.

VERMILLION COMMUNITY MURAL PROJECT

The Vermillion Community Mural Project seeks to create public art spaces for community members to share their stories through visual language. Together, VCMP and VCA have painted three murals in Vermillion. The mural project has been funded by the South Dakota Arts Council, a Change Network project grant supported by National Arts Strategies and the Bush Foundation, and ioby.
