Hosted by the South Dakota Association for the Education of Young Children

No Small Matter is a feature-length documentary film and national engagement campaign that brings public attention to the vital question why, when the importance of quality early care and education is so widely accepted, do we continue to fail so many? by sharing powerful stories and stunning truths about the human capacity for early intelligence and the potential for quality early care and education to benefit America’s social and economic future. This multifaceted project reveals how our country is raising its youngest citizens, why making the most of this time in their lives is so crucial, and most importantly, what we can do to change the perception of when learning begins.

The Artist Is Present | Free Community Showing

The University of South Dakota's Student Art Alliance is hosting the movie Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present. The film focuses on Marian Abramovic as she prepares for her artwork to be displayed at Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Seductive, fearless, and outrageous, Marina Abramovic has been redefining what art is for nearly 40 years. Using her own body as a vehicle, pushing herself beyond her limits and at times risking her life in the process she creates performances that challenge, shock, and move us.

This film follows Marina as she prepares for what may be the most important moment of her life: a major new retrospective of her work, taking place at The Museum of Modern Art. To be given a retrospective at one of the world's premier museums is the most exhilarating sort of milestone. For Marina, it is far more: it is the chance to finally silence the question she has been hearing over and over again for four decades: But why is this art?

Trapped Film Screening and Discussion

Join us we reflect on the anniversary of Roe v Wade and the current state of reproductive rights in South Dakota and nationally.

Med Students for Choice South Dakota will be hosting a social hour with snacks and reps from Planned Parenthood, NARAL SD, and SD Access for Every Woman at 6-6:45 PM at the Bean coffeeshop (yes, they will have their awesome drinks available for purchase), then make our way over to the Coyote Twin Theater for the showing at 7 PM. Social hour is free, showing tickets are $5 available at the door. Cash or Venmo accepted. Closed captions available.

"U.S. reproductive health clinics are fighting to remain open. Since 2010, 288 TRAP (Targeted Regulations of Abortion Providers) laws have been passed by conservative state legislatures. Unable to comply with these far-reaching and medically unnecessary measures, clinics have taken their fight to the courts. As the U.S. Supreme Court decides in 2016 whether individual states may essentially outlaw abortion (Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt), Trapped follows the struggles of the clinic workers and lawyers who are on the front lines of a battle to keep abortion safe and legal for millions of American women."
